1. Supervisor Training for Recognizing Suspicious Behavior Certification costs $150 per person (2 hours, follows DOT rules).
This training is required for supervisors in all companies regulated by the Department of Transportation, except for owner-operators. If your company has employees who work in safety-sensitive roles, at least one supervisor must be certified in Suspicion Supervisor Awareness Training. This is also necessary for insurance coverage from MPI for your fleet.
Substance abuse among employees costs companies around $10,000 per year due to things like missed work, accidents, and health issues. Employers need to know they can’t test employees for drugs or alcohol randomly unless they have proper documentation and evidence.
This course teaches supervisors how to recognize signs of possible substance abuse and how to deal with it properly. Supervisors need to fully understand their responsibilities under Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 40).
2. Designation Employee Representative Training costs $150 per person (1.5 hours, follows DOT guidelines).
Every company regulated by the Department of Transportation needs to have at least one Designated Employer Representative (DER). This role is also known as the Drug and Alcohol Program Manager (DAPM). The DER is responsible for managing the company’s substance abuse testing program. They must fully understand their duties under Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 40). The DER has the authority to make decisions about testing and answer related questions. To effectively manage the DOT drug and alcohol program, the DER needs a comprehensive understanding of the rules and their responsibilities under Federal Regulations.
